Release Notes (COMMUNITY OBSERVED)

The Flock is currently operating on Release 1.0.1 (115).

Build 115 is less about one big feature and more about shaping how Gander works day-to-day. This update focuses on Home, Feeds, discovery, and reducing “social media scoreboard” behaviour.

What’s New / Changed

Home (FYP) is now your main space

Your Home feed is now centred around your For You Page, which prioritises:

  • People you interact with
  • People in your Nest
  • Conversations relevant to you

Home = your people and conversations

Nest now has a clearer purpose

Your Nest is now your inner circle — the people you don’t want to miss.
Posts from people in your Nest are prioritised in your Home experience.

Use Nest for:

  • Close friends
  • People you interact with often
  • Important accounts you don’t want buried in feeds

Feeds are now for discovery and topics

Feeds are being positioned as exploration spaces, not your main timeline.

Examples of Feeds:

  • On Gander
  • Following
  • Your Nest
  • Mutuals
  • Topics

Feeds = explore the community

Network Scope Control

You can now choose whether your feeds show:

  • Gander only, or
  • Gander + BlueSky and the wider AT network

This gives users control over whether they want a more local/community experience or a broader network experience.

People You May Know

Gander now suggests people based on:

  • Mutual follows
  • Network proximity
  • Shared connections

This helps new users find their community faster.

Like Counts Removed (Likes still exist)

You can still like posts and people still get notifications.
However, public like counts are no longer shown.

The goal is to:

  • Reduce popularity contests
  • Reduce social comparison
  • Focus more on conversation and community
  • Avoid “viral chasing” behaviour

This is a design choice to encourage quality discussion over engagement metrics.

Coming Soon (Roadmap Items Mentioned)

  • Accessibility improvements
  • Dark mode
  • French language support
  • Human verification
  • SMS login
  • Passkeys
  • Groups
  • Browser-based app
  • Cross-network posting
  • More reactions and post metrics

If you encounter "Signal Drift" or unexpected behaviour, consult the official logs before reporting:
